Abstract

The outcomes of this research provide coral reef ecosystem researchers, as well as managers and decision makers, with a tool for determining and mapping coral reef density in more detail than in the past (e.g. Ninsawat and Tripathi, 2003, Ahmad and Neil, 1994; Zainal, Dalby and Robinson, 1993). It will help in quantifying coral density at particular points in time leading to estimates of change, and allow coral reef ecologists to identify the current coral reef habitat health status, distribution and extent.
