Abstract

This research investigates the creative and collaborative potential of virtual environments in an artistic context. The project developed virtual environments, as installations in traditional gallery settings, which can be inhabited as performance spaces by creative practitioners and viewers. In the context of this research, creativity is understood to be an emergent property that is instigated from relational systems such as social interaction. Subsequently, collaboration is positioned as the phenomenological, inter-subjective experience of being within these relational systems. The collaborative virtual environments presented are intended to be interactive installations as well as platforms for artistic collaborations that propose new forms of artistic practice and performance.
