Abstract
Increasing urbanization results in significant generation of Construction and Demolition (C&D)waste and, although waste prevention is considered one of the most effective methods of management, its practical implementation lacks effective integration during the planning of a new building, hence its application is not widely implemented among design industry and academy. Aiming to support proper decision-making at the early planning and design phases with suitable tools that support different stakeholders, considering a range of waste-prevention solutions, this paper presents a conceptual framework to help in the modelling refinement of C&D waste environmental impact quantification. The framework was based on a literature search of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) integration papers and it will respond to the complexity of this process, considering materials and their corresponding waste streams and environmental impacts of the building’s entire lifecycle, in order to indicate priority waste sources and formulate approaches for refinement of parameters. To be more seamlessly integrated into the industry, the proposed framework will be BIM enable. This is a part of an on-going research to develop a multi-stage model for reducing C&D waste with BIM and LCA, supporting various stakeholders’ collaboration throughout the entire project lifecycle
