Abstract

A quantitative methodology was used in this research to explore the relationship between the cultural adaptation and performance of non-Chinese professionals (expatriates from other countries) in Tianjin, China. This research study has uncovered mixed findings on the relationship between cross-cultural training, expatriates’ cultural adaptation, and expatriates’ performance. With regard to training received before arrival in China (pre-departure cross-cultural training programs), the research has found that performance is partly related to the expatriates’ adaptation in China. This study also revealed that in respect of pre-departure cross-cultural training, the content of the training received by the expatriates was significantly correlated (at a significant level of p < 0.05) to the expatriates’ adaptation in China.
