Abstract

Users of acupuncture care value improvements in their presenting condition highly, but also emphasize the importance of broad holistic care outcomes. It has been suggested that the interactions between acupuncturists and users of acupuncture care contribute to the outcomes of acupuncture care. Whether clients and clinicians who use acupuncture care for chronic low back pain valued broad holistic outcomes in addition to symptom alleviation, and how people with chronic low back pain viewed their interactions with acupuncturists, was unclear. Also, if these interactions could be assessed by using outcome measures to establish how they influenced acupuncture care outcomes was unknown. This thesis addresses these issues and contributes information about assessing acupuncture care for chronic low back pain.
