Abstract

This research is focused on developing novel or innovative algorithms to improve the pattern recognition accuracy of Electronic Tongue (ET) systems. Using an ion-selective electrode (ISE) sensor array, the novel algorithm removed major interferences to deliver simultaneous and accurate readings of multiple ion concentrations in water samples. The relationships between ISEs and their interfering ions are explored mathematically and consequently results can be obtained rapidly and accurately. In the application to environmental assessment, a novel system can be implemented to monitor irrigation waters.
