Abstract

This paper elaborates on the practice of using industry-inspired final year projects in the programs offered in the School of Electrical and Information Engineering at the University of South Australia. Several examples of current projects are discussed. Students compete for participation in such projects; they perceive these to have high relevance to industry requirements, and their career choice and development prospects in addition to providing documented substantiation for potential employment, particularly with a participating industry partner. Selection of project members is merit-based, which enhances the value of the experience in the eyes of competing students.
