Abstract
This book represents a set of chapters that were originally published as a collection of papers in a special edition of Sport Education and Society. Editors John Evans and Brian Davies have put together a selection of writings that represent a trans-disciplinary study of body pedagogies with a focus on theoretical and methodological diversity. New Directions in Social Theory, Education and Embodiment begins with an introductory chapter by Evans and Davies in which they outline their rationale for the choice of papers and chapters. This introduction demonstrates their diverse interests and collaborative activity as they acknowledge the contributions of each chapter/paper to the focus on embodiment, social theory and education. Collectively they represent theoretical and methodological diversity that allow border crossings between disciplines and perspectives of social and bio-physical sciences to better understand the complexity of body subjectivity.
