Abstract
The Adelaide University Union Phoenix magazine (1935-39) contained remarkable student contributions ranging from the Jindyworobaks to avant-garde poems with art by John Dowie and Dorrit Black. In 1940, in reaction to withdrawal of funding, Max Harris, D.B. Kerr, Paul Pfeiffer and Geoffrey Dutton founded the influential Angry Penguins magazine, resulting in artistic collaborations with artists such as Arthur Boyd. With index to Phoenix 1935-1939.
