Abstract
The extent and magnitude of economic interconnections between countries - particularly in Asia - is an area of immense scholarly and policy debate. One of the most notable strands of this debate relates to the implications of economic interconnections for the creation of furthering economic ties between nations, either through trade and investment accords, regional integration initiatives (such as the Chiang Mai initiative) or indeed through the creation of closer monetary ties (see Rajan, 2008).
