A nationally representative sample of 3,678 dentate adults was drawn from interviewees in the computer-assisted National Dental Telephone Interview Survey in 1999 and the follow-up mail survey. Three social determinants (personal control, perceived stress, and social support) were investigated for their role in shaping dental behaviour and for advancing the understanding of oral health differences among socioeconomic groups.en
