Abstract

Located in the multilingual and multicultural setting of an Indonesian higher education institution, this study scrutinises the established practice of English language teaching and learning (ELTL) in such a context. It first aims to explore teachers’ understanding of the current curriculum and the goals of ELTL in relation to the local context. The study then examines changes that the teachers consider necessary to provide meaningful ELTL. Building on this basis, it seeks to investigate the possibilities that intercultural language teaching and learning (ILTL) might offer.
