Abstract
Hospital pharmacists are vital to medication safety. Effective collaboration is key, as roles of health professionals are deeply interconnected. Views of other health professionals on the role of hospital pharmacists can guide optimisation of pharmacy service delivery. A comprehensive literature review confirmed international support for pharmacists' clinical roles, such as education and early interventions, while identifying communication and role recognition issues. An Australian group interview study further highlighted the value of pharmacists’ clinical roles, advocating for greater specialisation and integration. It suggested administrative tasks could be delegated to technicians. Together, this thesis provides global and Australian hospital teams perspectives on hospital pharmacists’ roles, calling for tailored and prioritised activities to enhance patient and workplace outcomes.
