dc.description.abstractThis report identifies the major drivers of housing careers in Australia in the first part of the 21st century, as well as policy implications. 21st century housing transitions are a reflection of changing demographic, social, economic and public policy processes. The evidence suggests that the majority of Australians are able to construct successful and satisfying housing transitions through their participation in the housing market, but some vulnerable groups are increasingly left behind. In the long-term the challenge for housing policy in Australia will be to continue to nurture an efficient housing market, while helping those with both short-term and long-term needs.
