Abstract
This body of work in ceramics draws on animal, vegetable and mineral forms from natural history collections to address the question ‘Where does stuff come from’? This question is at the heart of Valamanesh’s long standing research into the interconnectedness of life forms. This body of work also draws on the history of funerary ceramics; the memorialisation of the deceased in black, glassy, vitrified clay in an attempt to articulate and counter the transience of life through the creation of permanent forms.
