Abstract

Earshot is the first Australian opera that reflects upon generational healing in response to the loss of life in WW1. The story revolves around Sarah Clarke, a blind Australian musician, who visits the Somme in France looking for the lost grave of her great-grandfather who disappeared during WW1. This one act opera of one hour duration involves four performers, four musicians and four chorus members. Previously performed at the Percy Grainger Museum in Melbourne in 2015, this play was performed at the Hartley Playhouse at the University of South Australia in 2018 and for the first time featured a blind performer in the lead role.
