Abstract

This paper presents fi ndings from anexploratory study of students whocompleted an international exchangeprogramme at an Australian university.Through the use of the pushpull typologyand a structured questionnaire, the studentmotivations and factors in their selection ofa university exchange programme areexplored. Results indicate that studentsdesire to travel and the opportunity for funand excitement are the primary motivatorsfor undertaking an educational exchange,along with the host countrys weather,natural environment and tourist attractions.Factors that infl uence selection of a hostuniversity are outlined, as well as studentslevels of satisfaction with the experience.The fi ndings have implications fordestination and university managers.
