Abstract
This preliminary study explores relationships between pro-environmental attitudes and behaviour of tourists using green accommodation providers on Kangaroo Island, South Australia. A self-completed survey was distributed to tourists staying overnight on the island. Cross-cultural comparisons were made between four groups of respondents. This included Australian intrastate and interstate visitors as two separate groups, international visitors from Europe and America as a single group, and Chinese international visitors. Significant differences were found between the groups. The key findings of the study indicate that Chinese tourists staying at green accommodation were more likely to express pro-environmental attitudes and report pro-environmental behaviour when compared with the other groups. While there are implications for marketing green accommodation to the growing Chinese tourism market to Australia, further work is required to explain the differences found.
