Abstract
This thesis describes a model of Radio Frequency pulses from sources between 100MHz and 100GHz in the electromagnetic environment. The pulses are described in terms of digital descriptors (Pulse Descriptor Words) which contain the key parameters of each pulse. These parameters include frequency, pulsewidth, presence of modulation on the pulse, direction from a reference receiver, amplitude at a reference receiver and the ambient noise level at the time of pulse reception. The characteristics of selected pulses are created as sampled digital data for subsequent processing to identify and measure the levels of amplitude, frequency and phase intrapulse modulation.
The model is programmable by the selection of sources from emitter libraries, the selection of a receiver from a receiver library and the introduction of dynamics through the geometric movement of sources and the reference receiver.
The suitability of the model for the evolution of Knowledge-Based systems has been verified by using three different types of Knowledge systems and three different views of the total pulse environment.
