Abstract
This thesis describes two specific areas of research relevant to local Australian water utilities; (1.) The adequacy of the current means of quantifying greenhouse gas emissions from biosolids stockpiles and (2.) The significance and the efficacy of carbon sequestration in agricultural soils with current rates of biosolids reuse for the purposes of offsetting carbon emissions. Recommendations to the further development of methodology for improved emissions reporting and potential avenues for carbon offsets are detailed in this thesis together with process optimization steps able to be implemented into current processing operations to reduce emission generation from biosolids stockpiles.
