Abstract

The Anangu Tertiary Education Program (AnTEP) ran for over thirty years on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands of South Australia. I worked in the AnTEP program for its final six years while living in Pukatja and travelling other communities. I worked with Anangu educators training to be teachers in a process that slowly evolved into being much more than a dominant culture directed process. Over time my interactions frequently took place in what Bhabha (2004) referred to as the ‘Third Space.’ This is a reflective narrative on my experiences in this place of wonderful exchanges across cultures. In contrast to the dominant culture’s system of grand policies about quick fixes for ‘problems’, I followed the view of Margonis (2011) that powerful educational experiences arise through strong, culturally considerate relationships. This takes time.
