Abstract

The capabilities of the computer codes, LS-DYNA3D (1999) and IFSAS (1998) is investigated, for simulating the detonation and blast wave propagation of high explosives in air were analyzed. The detonation and resulting blast from 10kg of TNT was numerically investigated. The LS-DYNA code is an explicit finite element code with adaptive time stepping algorithm. The study show that IFSAS provides an accurate description of far field blast and LS-DYNA accurately captures the physics of detonation inside the explosive.
