Abstract

The preparation of a series of conjugated cyclophanes is described. Molecular modelling studies were performed on the bis-coupled systems and the cyclophanes to investigate steric interactions between the constrained and unconstrained aromatic systems. A new catalytic protocol was discovered and developed for the palladium catalysed coupling of terminal alkynes to aryl-halides using zinc co-catalysts.
