Abstract
Despite its popularity, little is known about how and why ClassDojo is used to discipline students and its influence upon school discipline practices. The aim of this research was to investigate how ClassDojo shapes understandings of student behaviour and school discipline practices. A critical qualitative study utilising a multi-method approach was conducted. The study found that the design and functions of ClassDojo promote processes and logics of datafication, surveillance and behaviourism which shape both understandings of student behaviour and the practices used by teachers. It suggests that ClassDojo promotes and facilitates a narrow, datafied form of school discipline within which control is the underlying imperative. This study contributes new knowledge about school discipline and education technologies.
