Abstract
High-Wage countries are facing an increasing pressure to retain their status as production nations. Globalisation is challenging these countries to keep their leadership in the context of a dynamic framework. One approach is to achieve a reduction in manufacturing steps, for example by integrating the cold spraying process and injection moulding to produce hybrid plastics/metal products in a single process step. In particular, a cold sprayed copper track is applied to the surface of an injection mould insert and then transferred to the injected polymer. Thereby, a plastics component with an electrically conductive track is produced, which possesses 22 % of the conductivity of copper bulk material. Intergranular cracks decrease the theoretical conductivity of cold sprayed copper. The transferability of the copper track greatly depends on the kind of surface pretreatment of the mould insert and the distance between the copper track and the sprue gate.
