Abstract

This paper presents the design of a low bandwidth communication protocol based on the Radio Data System (RDS) for remote control applications. The paper focuses on the design of the protocol, its key features, suitability, and a software decoding model. The model has been successfully tested using a microcontroller based laboratory prototype. The proposed protocol has the potential of delivering a low cost solution for remotely monitoring and controlling a wide variety of applications, including industrial, office and household applications. © /2004IEEE.
