Abstract
In this thesis, the static and dynamic electrowetting behaviour of pure and diluted ionic liquids in contact with an ambient phase of hexadecane was studied. Solid substrates were coated with an indium tin oxide electrode which was then electrically insulated with a thin layer of an amorphous fluoropolymer. DC and AC potentials were applied to small (few μL) droplets contacted with a platinum wire, and contact angle, capacitance and base area under the droplet were tracked and compared.
