Abstract
Hossein Valamanesh, one of Australia's most significant contemporary artists, was born in Tehran in 1949 and immigrated to Australia in 1973 when 24 years old. He draws on Persian poetry, Sufi philosophy and experience of the Australian landscape to create enigmatic artworks imbued with a disturbing beauty. Hossein Valamanesh: Out of nothingness traces the development of Hossein's art practice which engages with intense philosophical questions, the ephemerality of existence, and relationships between nature and culture.
