Abstract

The thesis explores social aspects of cellular manufacturing (CM), a process which brings together both worker teams and dedicated machines into a single location or 'cell'. Three empirical studies were undertaken with valuable contributions being made in the areas of human factors identification, effects of labour flexibility on teamworking, and the implementation of CM.
