Abstract
The current PhD study was able to add new knowledge in terms of effect of soil properties on bioaccumulation, biotransformation, bioavailability of heavy metals (Pb, Zn, Cd) and metalloids (As) and their mixtures on weight loss, mortality and reproduction ability of E. fetida. Furthermore this study was able to compare and contrast between bio assay end points in E. fetida in the presence of binary and tertiary metal mixtures. This revealed the heavy metals and metal mixtures in acidic soils exerted high toxicity compared to those present in neutral and alkaline soils. Furthermore binary and tertiary metal toxicities in acidic soils in terms of % mortality decreased in the sequence of; Zn+Cd > Pb+Cd+Zn > Zn+Pb > Pb+Cd.
