Abstract

Hybrid Assemblages is a practice-led project that focuses on grid-based generative art and the subjective experience of making, while deliberately traversing boundaries of usually separate grid-utilising disciplines. The focus is on non-digital methods that enable close examination of the subjective experiences of handling and the performance of materials, and to investigate how recent knowledge of digital generative art systems informs non-digital generative art. Materials, technologies, and skill sets are used as exchangeable, functional parts; thereby exploring concepts of assemblage in the creative process of generative art. The social roles of the pleiodisciplinary self, specialisation, tools, technologies, and transfer are explored from the perspective of subjective experiences of reflection, planning and making and the opportunities for creative works that accrue.
