Abstract
This research aims to illustrate the importance of environmentally realistic laboratory-based experiments in understanding of arsenic cycling in marine phytoplankton in order to gain a better understanding of their importance within the marine arsenic cycle. Two types of cultures, batch and continuous were examined as well as the effects of varying Arsenic (As), Phosphorus (P) and Nitrogen (N) concentrations. The more environmentally realistic the cultures became in-terms of As(V) and PO43- additions the closer the arsenic species e.g. arsenosugars found matched to what is found environmentally.
