Abstract
The research work carried out and reported in this thesis is divided into two parts. The aim of the first part is to introduce the generalized monotropic programming (GMP) and its dual in infinite dimensions, and to provide constraint qualifications for obtaining strong duality and zero duality gap for this separable optimization problem. The second part is devoted to the application of duality theory to optimal control problems, namely, to control-constrained linear quadratic programming problems (LQ).
