Abstract

In this chapter we will discuss the principles of sustainable transport and the feasibility of replacing conventional private vehicles with electric vehicles (EVs) for urban transport. An increase in the use of EVs will contribute to more sustainable transport systems by reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, while still offering individual mobility. Planning considerations need to be made for EVs to be used on a large scale and as direct replacements for conventional vehicles, including impacts on traffic management, land use development, and power supply.
