Abstract
The cloud radio access network (C-RAN) is an architecture that shows potential for 5G and has the capability to dramatically increase energy efficiency. However, due to the high power requirement of the baseband processing units (BBUs), C-RAN still consumes a lot of energy. The network's consumption of energy could be significantly reduced by this resource centralization. In this paper, we propose energy efficient bandwidth aware virtualized BBU pool for 5G C-RAN. Our proposed scheme automatically allocates the BBUs to the RRHs based on the bandwidth requirements of the RRHs and the energy consumption of the BBUs. We evaluate our proposed scheme using simulations, and we show that it can achieve significant energy savings over existing schemes. Simulation results demonstrate that energy efficiency for different bandwidth aware virtualized baseband pool for 5G C-RAN is higher than that of T-RAN by about 27%.
