Abstract
The rise in popularity of social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter raises the question of should and how these platforms could be incorporated into the teaching and learning environments within the University setting. The adoption of such an approach appears to be timely given the focus placed on blended learning within many higher education institutions throughout the academic world. This article examines the practical use of Facebook and Twitter within the context of a Sport and Recreation Management degree in an Australian University where these platforms have been found to be highly effective in creating rich online learning environments based on high levels of student and staff interaction supplemented by relevant industry engagement.
