Abstract

Australian Departments of Health have monitored population physical activity levels using the Active Australia Survey [AAS] questionnaire in their health surveys since 1997.This self-report tool targeted aerobic physical activity, quantifying the amount of walking and moderate-to-vigorous leisure-time physical activity in the population. Since its inception, the AAS has been used in more than 60 federal and state-based surveys. For this study, we collated the de-identified individual physical activity and sociodemographic unit record files from all available state and federal Department of Health surveys that were conducted between 1997 and 2012 and used the AAS.
