Abstract

Building Information Modelling (BIM) signifies a cultural shift in the construction industry, introducing new operating methods. Integrating BIM demands fostering a culture of innovation at the organisation level. This thesis aimed to develop a framework for managing BIM-enabled construction organisations towards a strong innovative BIM culture. The study employs a holistic-multiple case study strategy enriched with semi-structured interviews, observations and documentation. The findings reveal that a strong innovative BIM culture is characterised by participative authority, groupism, cooperation and a belief in the inherent goodness of human nature. Strategies for promoting this culture include empowering BIM teams, cultivating an open environment for idea sharing, implementing feedback loops, verbal appreciation, upskilling programs and leveraging BIM for competitive advantage.
