Abstract
The Australian hospitality industry largely relies on a workforce characterised by a high degree of ethnic diversity. While significant research has focused on the relationship between organisational culture, diversity management and organisational effectiveness, little research has examined how ethnic diversity informs these relationships. The conceptual framework presented in this paper contributes to the existing hospitality management literature by analysing how organisational culture and diversity management relate with organisational effectiveness, and the important moderating role that ethnic diversity plays in those relationships. The paper presents propositions using the Competing Values Framework and signaling theory to achieve organisational effectiveness. Based on the propositions presented, theoretical and practical implications are discussed to optimally manage the role of ethnic diversity to achieve organisational effectiveness through organisational culture and diversity management practices in the Australian hospitality industry in the Australian hospitality industry.
