Abstract

As leading arts board member and CEO of Bell Shakespeare John Bell illustrates, the world of organizational governance is complicated. However, limited theoretical foundation exists regarding how trustee dynamics are forced to adjust in nonprofit museums. In museums, creativity represents the highest ideals of human endeavor, none more praised than that of the artist as represented by the curators who present the work in exhibitions, catalogues, and public presentation. Boards of museums bask in the glory of success of these endeavors, reflecting in the glory of artists as heroes and art as the creative expression of genius.
