Abstract
One of the more positive features of our discipline over the past decade or so has been a rise in self-confidence among those who labor beneath its umbrella. This has been reflected in a number of ways, including a rapid expansion in professorial appointments, important contributions to public debate by journalism academics and widespread acknowledgement of the quality of this journal. After decades of being on the outer, these and other developments suggest that, in Australia at least, the discipline is at last coming to terms with the sector and the sector is at last coming to terms with the discipline.
