Abstract

My thesis focused on obesity and depression with the aim to 1) provide evidence on the causal association between body mass index (BMI, a common obesity measures) and depression, and between depression and BMI, 2) explore whether the predisposition to higher BMI was different among individuals with and without depression, and 3) identify depression-related comorbidities. To address these aims, I used two-large population-based studies from the UK and incorporated non-genetic and genetic-based epidemiological approaches.
