Abstract

Students in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) settings in Asia often experience minimal opportunity for speaking English in class, despite policy emphasis on communication. This study therefore investigates the sociocultural and pedagogic factors related to the development of speaking in a South Korean university General English class using a curriculum especially developed through praxis to foster speaking. This is a teacher-researcher case study, drawing on lived classroom phenomena and incorporating both student voice and teacher voice.
