Abstract
The contents include: Captain Fawcett and native regiment, questions for Mrs Meares (regarding death and burial customs) of Roebourne, references to Howitt and other writers (regarding in part Yerkla Mining marriage and totems, tribes circumcised and uncircumcised, Roebourne notes, miscellaneous items from Point Cloates (from T. Carter, regarding Talanjee, Byung and Ingarda tribes and names of trees, shrubs and plants, diseases, remedies, legends, folklore, names of weapons and numerous other aspects of culture), notes of J. Monger, Gascoyne regarding burial, diseases, cannibalism, making fires, ghosts and witchcraft, marriage laws by Annear of Fitzroy, first meetings with natives as described by Pelsart, Tasman, Vlanning, Dampier, King, the natives and Christianity, Joowel’s letter, Spencer and Gillen's description of ideas about birth and spirit children.
Pages 102-229 consist of hundreds of questions on all topics, mainly Bibbulmun, for William and other natives regarding legends, relationship terms (incl. Vasse and Capel areas), where children come from, Doonan wangee (language), mourning and funeral customs, legends, table of descent – southern tribes, grammar, Wirgain (informant), Karnduing (informant) and names of trees etc.
