Abstract
Installed in MOD.’s Lecture Gallery, Bodification is comprised of a multi-channel video installation, an interactive screen and display plinths. As visitors enter the space, they are met with large and small screens playing Modular Body. The speculative video work explores OSCAR, an experimental organism whose organs are detachable and transposable. The video discusses the potentiality of such organisms and the innovation’s ethical implications. Visitors can also explore this work on an iPad in the gallery, giving them the agency to form their own playlist of Modular Body content. Circumventive Organs is a hyper-realistic sculptural depiction of speculative organs amalgamating animal and human anatomy. Non-fictional research acts as a counterpoint to the speculative work. Fiona Wood’s spray-on skin is displayed alongside UniSA research into fake blood, wound healing dressings and injections, 3D printed feet and organs on chips. These works speak to the present-day reality and future potential of bodily innovation. The exhibit also showcases the University’s biomedical research.
