Measurements of the refractive index and extinction coefficient of organic solvents were presented. The material parameters for the samples were estimated using an iterative technique. The results for iso-octane, toluene and cyclo hexane showed that the protein refractive index was profoundly affected by even small amounts of water present in the solvents.
