| dc.description.abstract | Time-use research is a field of study dedicated to understanding how people spend their time. Time-use instruments record discrete daily activities, enabling habitual activity profiles to be constructed and differences between groups of individuals to be explored. Compared to healthy populations, people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exhibit unique activity profiles resultant from physiological impairment and associated symptoms (breathlessness and fatigue). While numerous studies explore the impact of pharmaceutical and nonpharmaceutical interventions for people with COPD, it is unclear whether, and to what extent, management strategies alter habitual time use. This thesis describes four time-use studies in people with COPD. | |
