Abstract

Examines the development of special education services in South Australia from 1915-1975. Explores factors which positioned the intellectually disabled child, previously excluded or marginalised from schooling, within the modern school system. Also seeks to understand the part played by medicine, psychology and sociology in the production of the intellectually disabled child as a viable figure of knowledge and administration.
