Abstract

Governments all over the world are constantly endeavouring to make their communities safer and the lives of their citizens less fearful. For decades now, researchers have been asking: “What is working to reduce crime?” “What do we need to test?” “What could work better in crime prevention?” “What have we not tried in the field of crime control?” This thesis draws upon a decade (2011-2020) of my published works (chapters and refereed articles) exploring the research, assessing the answers, and considering the options and strategies towards this end. In adding to this thesis up to date data and findings from my later writings and the more recent published works of others, I have designed the thesis to suggest preferred pathways for Australian policymakers to consider in their drive for crime abatement
