Abstract
This study focuses on whether metal-based ENPs (specifically nCeO2 and nTiO2) have any phytotoxic effect on rice and wheat germination and survival in aqueous and soil environments. In addition, the effect of nCeO2 and nTiO2 on rice and wheat, when grown in a rice-wheat crop rotational system, which is a common crop sequence globally and within Australia, was also investigated. Given their global importance as a food source, particular interest was given to determining whether ENPs accumulated in cereal grains as well as establishing whether ENPs altered the nutritional content of grains.
